We are a group of faithful praying for Catholics in China.

Novenas

On May 24, 2008, the memorial of Our Lady Help of Christians, the Church observed the first Day of Prayer for Chinese Catholics. Pope Benedict XVI called on all Catholics to "demonstrate their fraternal solidarity and solicitude" for them, joining them in praying for the grace of perseverance and faithfulness.

On September 22, 2018, the Vatican-China Provisional Agreement was signed. It has been repeatedly extended to the present day.

Since then, China has appointed bishops without Vatican approval, contrary to the agreement.

Cardinal Zen was arrested in Hong Kong for his outspoken opposition to Chinese Communist Party (CCP) control of Church affairs.

Arrests of bishops and priests have continued.

Churches have been demolished by the Chinese government, not only underground churches, but also government-approved churches.

Religious books and materials are restricted in quantity, and the content must be approved by the Chinese Communist Party. The fullness of the Catholic Faith is suppressed.

Clergy are expected to teach in accord with CCP ideology and promulgate Chinese law. They are required to display images of Xi and CCP propaganda in churches.

Worst of all, children and teens are forbidden from attending any religious activities, including Mass. In some areas even home instruction in religion is forbidden.

Cardinal Zen called this agreement, which deprived the underground Church of much of its needed support, "an incredible betrayal."

In solidarity with these persecutions, in reparation for these betrayals, and in supplication for an outpouring of grace in China, we invite you to join us in two novenas, May 16th-24th and September 14th-22nd.

Novena Dates:

May 16-24 a novena ending on the World Day of Prayer for the Church in China.

September 14-22  a novena starting on the Exaltation of the Cross and ending on the anniversary of the Vatican-China deal.

The Prayers:

Virgin Most Holy, Mother of the Incarnate Word and our Mother, venerated in the Shrine of Sheshan under the title "Help of Christians", the entire Church in China looks to you with devout affection. We come before you today to implore your protection. Look upon the People of God and, with a mother’s care, guide them along the paths of truth and love, so that they may always be a leaven of harmonious coexistence among all citizens.

When you obediently said "yes" in the house of Nazareth, you allowed God’s eternal Son to take flesh in your virginal womb and thus to begin in history the work of our redemption. You willingly and generously cooperated in that work, allowing the sword of pain to pierce your soul, until the supreme hour of the Cross, when you kept watch on Calvary, standing beside your Son, who died that we might live.

From that moment, you became, in a new way, the Mother of all those who receive your Son Jesus in faith and choose to follow in his footsteps by taking up his Cross. Mother of hope, in the darkness of Holy Saturday you journeyed with unfailing trust towards the dawn of Easter. Grant that your children may discern at all times, even those that are darkest, the signs of God’s loving presence.

Our Lady of Sheshan, sustain all those in China, who, amid their daily trials, continue to believe, to hope, to love. May they never be afraid to speak of Jesus to the world, and of the world to Jesus. In the statue overlooking the Shrine you lift your Son on high, offering him to the world with open arms in a gesture of love. Help Catholics always to be credible witnesses to this love, ever clinging to the rock of Peter on which the Church is built. Mother of China and all Asia, pray for us, now and for ever. Amen!

(From Pope Benedict XVI found: https://www.vatican.va/content/benedict-xvi/en/prayers/documents/hf_ben-xvi_20080515_prayer-sheshan.html)

St. Joan of Arc, Filled with compassion,  For those who invoke you, Filled with love for those who suffer,  Heavily laden with the weight of my troubles,  I kneel at your feet and humbly beg you,  To take my present need,  Under your special protection.  (Mention your request here).

Grant to recommend it,  To the Blessed Virgin Mary,  And lay it before the throne of Jesus.  Cease not to intercede for me,  Until my request is granted.     Above all, obtain for me,  The grace to one day,  Meet God face to face,  And with you and Mary,  And all the angels and saints,  Praise Him through all eternity.

O most powerful Saint Joan,  Do not let me lose my soul,  But obtain for me the grace  Of winning my way to heaven,  Forever and ever. Amen.
